An Example of A Narrative Essay (free topic)

This is an example of a narrative essay that was written in the present tense. The awkward idea of the story is originally from me when I was in the ESOL class, so please don't copy this and claim this is yours because I know your narrative essay will be a lot better than this :D GoodLuck!

The Shocking

I am sitting in my family room at 8:00 P.M. watching television with my little brother when all at once, the lights in the whole house goes out. They blink on and then off again. Finally, they come back on and when they do, I notice the room is filled with a purple haze. The haze slowly clears, and suddenly a three-foot-tall man with a very large green head appears in the center of the room. He is dressed in strange gray clothes, and his large black eyes are the size of coconuts. He has a strange looking metallic gadget in his hand. He takes one step toward me and raises the metallic object.
Without any scared, I look at his eyes. He knows that I am not scared of him, so he brings that metallic object down. Bravely, but a little bit of shaking, I ask him “Who are you? Why do you come to my house?” He says nothing. Then he looks around and I think he wants to go somewhere else. I ask my little brother to come with me and follow him. Yet, when I see my little brother, he is not sitting beside me. I am panic. “Where is he going?” I am trapped in two situations. I have to decide whether I look for my brother or follow that strange man.
A few minutes later, while I am going to stand up from the couch, the light turns off suddenly. I lose that man and I don’t know where my little brother is. I try to turn the light on, but it doesn’t work. The television also off, I can not turn the electricity in all of the rooms in my house. I am looking for a flashlight that usually we put in the kitchen, but I can not find it either. Suddenly, I see somebody is running beside the dinner table. I am thinking that he is the strange man. Without any voice, I run to the place that he goes to. I see a light inside a restroom, and I am thinking, “Where does the light come from?” Then I bet that it must be the light from a flashlight. Quickly, I grab a broom near the restroom, and take a tablecloth in a cabinet beside it, with holding a plan that I will hit that man and cover him with the tablecloth.
About five minutes, I have been waiting for him to come out, but he doesn’t. I try to open the door, with full of hope that it doesn’t lock from inside so I can run my mission. Then I open the door and I hit that strange man’s head inside that restroom three times with the closed eyes. In the other side, I feel something not right. I can not hit him. Then I open my eyes, and I see my little brother is brushing his teeth. I just realize that we have an emergency light in the restroom. I am so mad and confused too. I ask him “Hey did you see that big man around? Did you see him? Do you know where he is?” My little brother just says “Who? I didn’t see anybody here, I have been here for about ten minutes. “Okay, then you come with me now to grab that man, finish your brushing quickly!” He says “Okay okay let’s go”.
The lights are still off, so I grab the emergency light from the restroom. I ask my little brother to bring it. Then we go to my parent’s room. Assume that he is a thief who is looking for jewelry in the main room in this house. When we open the door and come in there, we see nothing is wrong. Everything is neat. Suddenly I hear a plate or glass is cracking from the kitchen. Then we both run there. Surprisingly, I see that big man in the kitchen holding a cake with several amounts of candles. All the lights turn on by themselves, then I am surprised that there are a lot of people there, I see my mom, my cousins, and my friends there. They are singing happy birthday to me. Then I assume that the big man is my father. I run to him and say “Daaaadddy I know it was you!”

I am very surprised on that day. Then I feel very happy and realize that a lot of people love me and still remember my birthday. I will never forget that day. The shocking birthday party.

An Example of Essay about Child Labor

This is a rough draft essay in one of my ESOL courses about Child Labor

This is The World’s Responsibility

“Child labor refers to work that is inappropriate because of a child’s age, the nature of the work, the number of hours worked, or some combination of these factors.” said by Wendy Herumin in her book Child Labor Today: A Human Rights Issue. Human trafficking, war, or HIV/AIDS are some of the causes of children becoming orphans. Many of these unprotected orphans become a statistic that is another underage working child. Sometimes, working is the only choice they have to survive. There are also cases where children must work not only to survive, but they also have to earn as much money as possible to pay off family debts, get an education, and healthcare. There are some families that encourage their children to work hard and in a dangerous location in order to have a better life in the future. For instance, child labor is very common in India. Millions of children are forced to work in 23 different types of industries. America being very concern about this issue; then the government passed a bill on June 12, 1999 entitled Executive Order 13126. This bill prohibits the acquisition of products produced by forced or indentured child labor. However, the passing of this bill does not mean that America is responsible to stop child labor around the world, especially in India. It is the world’s responsibility, not only America’s, to work as a team to remove child labor from the earth.
The ILO (International Labour Organization), in existence in 1919, is the only tripartite United Nation agency that brings together governments, employers and workers, representatives from 187 member states to set labor standards, develop policies and devise programs promoting decent work for all women and men. Since it was formed, the ILO has passed several conventions about child labor. One of the ILO’s conventions was adopted by Millennium Age Convention to establish eight goals for the human’s well-being in life. Three of them concentrate about children’s labor issue; provide universal primary education, promote equality for women and girls, and reduce the number of children who die young, have written clearly in the agreement.
Beside the ILO and Millennium Age Convention, The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is another world’s organization that seriously contributes to recede and remove the amount of forcing children as labors. UNICEF also supports child health and nutrition, good water and sanitation, education for all boys and girls, and protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS. Based on the UNICEF’s aim, the foundation to cut off child labor is education. These world organizations have been doing great by keep rising the consumption of education for children in the earth.
The other thing is that they have many reports that shown child labor is decreasing. A report that was passed by IPEC (International Program for the Elimination of Child Labor) states that one of developing countries, Brazil, was reported successfully dropping 50 percent of working children in recent years. In addition, according to the ILO, the total number of children engaging in child labor in Latin America between 2008 and 2012 had decreased by 11 percent, or by 1.6 million children. Despite these reports have given a satisfying effect for several countries, India moves slowly, and there are even many more amount of working children. Sadly to say, but a provable report; even though India is the member of the ILO, and they have had several conventions of related issue, they do not take seriously to recede child labor. Wendy Herumin said, “…it has never enforced them.”
Most of us know that child labor is still happening in most of the developing countries in the world. Nevertheless, this issue was also a real part of several developed countries’ histories. Child labor has ever existed in England, Netherland, and the United States. Yet, in fact, those countries are three of the nine countries as representatives of the ILO’s forming in 1919. Thus, why should only America that being liable for the child labor in India? The answer is clearly stated above that the child labor issue in India is not because of America’s bill, and not the part of American’s liability. This is about how the spirits, strategies, and cooperation among the nations in the world to break off child labor.

SEKOLAH ANAK BINATANG

     Abstraksi

       Dino : “Siap, Macan.”

Seminggu kemudian….

www.flickr.com     Kucing : “Ayaaaam! Apakah kamu sudah siap?”
Ayam : “Siap apa? Bertelur? Aku masih kecil, tau!” (malu)
Kucing : “Haduh bukan, Yam. Kita kan mau sekolah!”
Ayam : “Oh sudah satu minggu ya memang? Asyik!”
Kucing : “Aku senang sekali akhirnya Bapak Macan membuka sekolah untuk kita!”
Ayam : “Iya, aku juga senang! Aku bahkan bisa mendapat pelajaran berenang disini!”
Kucing : “Betul!

Krisis
Namun keesokannya, sesuatu terjadi…
aldirivaldy.blogspot.com
Nemo : “Baiklah anak-anak!
     Anak-anak : (serentak) “Horeeeeeee!”
Kucing : “Ayam, kamu pasti senang kita akan belajar berenang!”
Ayam : “Iya aku senang tapi aku sedikit takut..”
     Kucing : “Mengapa?”
Nemo : “Ayam! Cepatlah berenang! Jangan diam saja! Kalau tidak bias berenang, kamu  akan dihukum!”
    Ayam : “Ba-ba-baik, Pak Nemo.”

Dino : “Selamat siang, anak-anak! Hari ini kita akan belajar terbang!”
     Kucing : “Wah asyiknyaa!”
     Ayam : (tersenyum melihat Kucing)

     Dino : “Ayo kepakkan sayap-sayapmu!”
     Ayam : (mengepakkan sayap)
Kucing : “Instruksi!

Macan : “Kucing! Ayam! Mengapa kalian berdua tidak sekolah?”
Kucing : “Eh Pak Macan, anu Pak.. emm..”

Kucing : (mengelus Ayam) “Sabar, Ayam. Iya, Pak Macan.
